Professional Development of Staff

Digital technology is playing an increasingly prominent role in the world of learning, work and leisure

Students have expectations of using digital technology for their learning and developing ICT skills that they will require in the world of work. Digital technology is playing an increasingly prominent role in the world of learning, work and leisure. We have a responsibility to ensure our students are capable for today’s world and equipped with skills to be digital citizens.

professional development for staff

Through training, development, collaboration and special projects, we are supporting staff in working in new ways and developing innovative pedagogies. We will support staff in developing digital skills and help them collaborate with key stakeholders and other colleagues through events and projects. Staff will be able to create their own learning materials directly for the virtual learning environment. We will support a programme of continuous professional development for staff.

We will support digital learning communities of practice and networks for staff learning and teaching. One of the aims of the digital learning fellowship is for PROCAT to enhance the digital experience for all learners. Using technology effectively can help create a rich learning experience for students. We need to look at doing things better, for example, not using the virtual learning environment, simply for storage, but making it a place for our students to create, collaborate and interact. Consideration also needs to focus on how learners differ in their use of technologies, in order, for us to understand what our learners need to succeed. The FELTAG report’s target on increasing the provision of online learning activities, should not be achieved by using technology for its own sake. The fellowship role recognises the importance for staff and learners to be able to express their views on what the value of online learning is.
